| | | Pete F.P. 7/20/10 | First time, long time. This heatwave has been horrible. To help deal with the heat (in my unairconditioned home) I like to watch movies that take place in snowy settings. Tuesday night I choose "Lost In Alaska". Wow, that movie is funny! I've always liked it, but the other night I couldn't stop laughing. It was as if it was some kind of new director's cut that I've never seen before. There were at least a half dozen jokes I never heard before. Also, for the first time I really appreciated the plot. And the message at the end (how gold can change people) really hit home. It even had my 8 year daughter laughing. The truth is, at first she was wasn't digging it (and I started debating having a paternity test). But then I started telling her that if Spencer (from TV's "iCarly") was doing the same things that Lou was doing, she'd be on the floor laughing. That's all it took. She couldn't stop laughing at the whale meat scene. Neither could I, it seemed like all new jokes. The movie's a bullseye. Like I said before, I've always liked "Lost In Alaska", but now it's leapfrogged to the front of the pack. | | Back to Message Board | | | | Sydney 7/20/10

| "Hit The Ice" is also a good one. I just watched that recently, maybe in June. It's always a fan favorite. A lot of laughs and some great music. Also, it has one of my all time favorite movie endings. | | | | Lou Abbott 7/18/10
| Still hot? Try "Hit the Ice." But stay away from "Abbott & Costello in the Foreign Legion"! | | | | 7/13/10
| I haven't posted here in awhile, but thought I'd chime in here. I've always had a soft spot for Lost in Alaska. I'm not exactly sure why, but I've always gotten a kick out of it. I think it's one of the better A&C's from the 1950's. I think that the supporting cast is solid and keep pace with Bud & Lou. It only has two songs in it, both of which are catchy. Lou & Mitzi singing "Hot Time in the Igloo" is a lot of fun. - I even get a kick out of the silly jokes like
Bud: "My wife's an angel"
Lou: "You're lucky. Mine's alive"
However, there is one scene in it that I’m sure must be a mistake. First there is a scene where Lou does some sign language and accidentally tells a "funny story". Later, Lou tells an Eskimo woman a joke, but instead of doing sign language, he whispers in her ear! She slaps him & then Lou says, "Didn't work". – Up until a couple of years ago, I would have bet anything that Lou did sign language to the woman before getting slapped. I think my brain just knew what the joke was supposed to be, so I hallucinated that part of the scene for years! Every time I see the scene now I think "How did I miss that?" | | | | Mark from Paterson 7/10/10
